Please note that the rug was not perfectly flat when these pictures were taken. The warped lines in the carpet are not a defect, but only a result of the fold lines on the carpet because of its not being laid perfectly flat. The crease will disappear after a few months.

Savonnerie rugs were mainly woven for palaces by special orders. These designs were produced under the direction of artists of the royal courts. Many rugs echoed the elegant ceilings of the rooms for which they were commissioned. The greatest period for Savonnerie rugs was between 1650 and 1789.
